Video Summary
The QuickSIN is a common clinical test for speech understanding in noise. It presents sentences at progressively poorer signal-to-noise ratios, and the listener repeats each sentence while key words are scored. Testing can be monaural with headphones or binaural with a front-facing speaker. Start around 70 dB HL, adding masking for the non-test ear if needed. Two lists are typically used, and the average SNR loss is calculated. Results help explain a client’s difficulty in noise and guide solutions such as hearing aids with directional microphones or remote microphones.
