Pdf Summary
Many people with normal hearing sensitivity experience hearing difficulties and speech-in-noise problems, despite having normal audiograms. This is known as hidden hearing loss and can be caused by damage to the auditory nerve or other auditory processing disorders. Extended high-frequency hearing loss, auditory processing disorders, and auditory neuropathy spectrum disorder are also potential causes. Speech-in-noise tests can be used to identify these difficulties. The use of personal amplification systems, such as hearing aids or FM systems, can improve speech understanding in noisy environments and reduce the negative impact of hearing difficulties on quality of life. Wireless technology, such as remote microphone systems, can further enhance speech understanding in noise. Comprehensive audiometric tests should be conducted to assess the individual's needs, and treatment options may include communication management discussions and training, as well as the use of hearing aids or other assistive listening devices to improve speech understanding in noise.
